Working with the different parts of ourselves

Dr. Trevor Simper practices counselling and psychotherapy with a wide variety of clients including those dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, alcohol and other drugs, disordered eating and weight management. He aims to help people who are struggling and to support colleagues who are also aiming to help those who are struggling.

Trevor describes himself as am a ping-pong pom who has been living in Western Australia for the last few years and come from a rural part of England originally.  This background alongside his therapeutic training informs our discussion in this episode.

His intention is to explore the spirit and technical aspects of motivational interviewing for helping others and the connection to/usefulness of accessing our ‘ego states’ via transactional analysis for helping ourselves.

In this podcast we dive into some of the nuances of Motivational Interviewing & explore the different parts of us and how this approach shows up in the therapy room.

This episode is full of many technical terms, so if you are interested in learning more, please connect with Dr. Trevor Simper’s podcast Counselling with Dr Trevor.
